Biography:
Francesco Valaperta (Milan 1836-1908)
A pupil of Francesco Hayez at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, he made his debut at the 1859 annual exhibition with a painting of a religious subject, followed in the following years by works of historical-literary derivation. At the end of the sixties he adapted to the repertoire of more intimate subjects much in demand by contemporary collectors and in 1872 he took part in the Second National Exhibition of Fine Arts at the Palazzo di Brera; subsequently he performs genre scenes approaching the pictorial ways of Gerolamo Induno and Eleuterio Pagliano. There were many commissions received from important exponents of the Milanese bourgeoisie but also from the Ospedale Maggiore for its benefactor picture gallery. In 1894 he took part in the II Triennale di Milano with a group of portraits.
