Triptych of gilt-bronze and crystal vases, France, early 19th century

Crystal and gilt-bronze
Dimensions: centerpiece h. 26 x d. 22 cm;      vases h. 27 x d. 32 cm.

Triptych consisting of a centerpiece and two vases in cut crystal and chased gilt-bronze.

The centerpiece consists of a flared crystal bowl with diamond-pointed chasing, knurling, and geometric carvings, and a wider scalloped edge; the pedestal is made of gilt-bronze with finely chased plant motifs.

The two smaller vases feature the same type of bowl, but have two pedestals in the shape of kneeling cherubs holding them up. Floral motifs complete the two vases, and the circular base rests on three feral feet with ornaments on the sides.
