Biography:
Nag Arnoldi (1928-2017) was a Swiss-Italian sculptor, painter and teacher. He trained artistically in the Lugano ateliers of Mario Chiattone, Antonio Chiattone, Carlo Cotti, Giuseppe Foglia and Filippo Boldini.
Starting from 1954 he began to exhibit his paintings in some exhibitions in Lugano and in the neighboring towns, to then participate in the following years in increasingly important exhibitions in all the major Swiss cities. He began to take an interest in sculpture in 1960, when he often traveled to Mexico, coming into contact with indigenous Mayan and Aztec art and pre-Columbian civilizations.
He exhibits more and more often in the American continent: in Mexico but also in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and in the USA. Since the 1970s he has devoted himself mainly to sculpture. Since 1971 he has lived in Comano alternating stays in Venice and Mexico City.
He is considered the best-known Ticino sculptor in the world.
