Federico Quatrini's 50th-century ceramic vase
Biography
Federico Quatrini, born in Milan on 21 September 1916, immediately after the war, after his initial Milanese pictorial experiences and the first exhibition of paintings and drawings held in Venice in 1939, in the years of the second post-war he arrives in Albisola and approaches ceramic material, which will lead him to sculpture, baking his clay works in the ovens of Pozzo Garitta, owned by Bianco d'Albisola. In 1949 he made his debut as a ceramist presenting some of his works, unique pieces, in a solo show in Albissola and at the Cairola Gallery in Milan. In 1952 he took part in the Messina National Ceramic Competition, in 1954 in the Exhibition of Master Ceramists at the San Fedele Gallery in Milan and in 1956 in the International Ceramic Competition in Faenza. Moved by a profound religious faith, he created numerous works of a religious nature including the great Via Crucis destined for the chapel of the Episcopal Complex of Vigevano and exhibited, in 1957, at the Cairola Gallery in Milan. In the fifties he also attended the Albisolese laboratories of the "Ce.As." owned by Pietro Rosso, Pietro Mantero and Angelo Platino, the furnace of Jolanda Schiavi, that of "Pozzo Garitta" and La Fenice. In 1960 he presented a bronze statue at the Citta di Forlì Award and from the same year he was present at all editions of the Albissola Ceramics Festival where, in 1961 he was awarded a gold medal. Vigevano and at the Monza International Show. In 1963 he was invited by the municipality of Albissola Marina to participate, together with other important potters, in the creation of the Lungomare degli Artisti. At the beginning of the 1960s he created some interesting monotypes of artistic ceramics in the Milanese workshops of Vincenzo Bortolotti. In 1964 a personal exhibition was dedicated to him at the San Fedele Gallery in Milan. In the same years he created a bas-relief in white monochrome for the Parish Church of Albissola Marina depicting the Via Crucis and collaborated with Eliseo Salino's Albissola-born "San Giorgio". In the 1980s he was invited to create some ceramic works at the "Fabbrica Casa Museo Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903" factory in Albania. Federico Quatrini died in Savona in 1991.
